Cheadle Modern Health Gym was founded in 1961, in the basement of Cheadle Institute, and moved to the current location, at Vernon Mill, in 2005.
Brian and Wilf took the reins in 1996 and soon introduced 24 hour opening, long before it in was in vogue with the gym chains. Our vision is to create a gym with high quality, well maintained equipment whilst preserving the gym’s unique heritage and character. We are very proud of the gym’s long history of traditional, no-nonsense, training methods.
Just as important is the camaraderie amongst the members that the inclusive and friendly atmosphere generates. Many special life-long friendships have been forged amongst the steel and iron of CMHG.
We are one of a dying breed of hard-core weight training gyms and the only one of which we know where the members can pump iron 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Membership costs £25 per month. No contract and no period of notice is required for termination of membership.
The gym has a strict no steroids policy. Use of the gym is restricted to members only and all members must be over 18 years of age. The equipment is suitable for all levels of fitness, and for both men and women. New members are made to feel very welcome regardless of experience.
You don’t have to be a big beefy bodybuilder to enjoy the facilities, but, if you are, then we reckon we have everything that you’ll ever need (the dumbbells range from 1kg to 66kg) and we are always responsive to suggestions for new equipment.
CMHG is primarily a free-weights gym, with literally tonnes of weight. We also have a wide selection of cable machines, punch bags, kettle bells, Concept 2 Rowers and Wattbikes. Come and have a look around (contact Wilf or Brian to arrange).
There will be no hard sell. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re looking for a well-equipped gym with no frills, then you might feel very much at home at CMHG.
